Thursday, September 24, 2026 - The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified woman found d3ad in a Calabar hotel and appealed to the public to help identify her.
The woman was found d3ad in a hotel room along Clifford
Lane, Calabar South, earlier this month.
The spokesperson for the command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata
disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to the statement, preliminary investigation showed
that the deceased lodged at the hotel alongside a male guest whose current
whereabouts remain unknown.
The command said investigators have intensified efforts to
establish her identity and determine the circumstances surrounding her d3ath as
the search for her companion continues
Police also said the receptionist who was on duty when the
incident occurred remains in custody and is assisting the investigators with
information about the admission of the guests and events leading up to the
discovery of the deceased.
The police noted that the receptionist’s detention should
not be interpreted as a determination of guilt.
“The Cross
River State Police Command wishes to provide an update on the ongoing
investigation into the suspected homicide of an unidentified female guest at a
hotel along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, earlier reported by the Command in
its press release of 8 September 2026,” the statement read.
"As
part of ongoing efforts to establish the identity of the deceased, the Command
is releasing her photograph and appeals to anyone who recognises her or may
have information concerning her identity, family or associates to contact the
Police with credible information.
"Preliminary
investigation indicates that the deceased lodged at the hotel alongside a male
guest whose whereabouts remain under investigation. Efforts are ongoing to
locate him and establish the circumstances surrounding the deceased’s d3ath.
"The
receptionist on duty at the time of the incident remains in Police custody and
is assisting investigators with information concerning the admission of the
guests and events preceding the discovery of the deceased.
"His
custody should not be construed as a determination of guilt, as any further
action will be based on available evidence and in accordance with the law.
"The
Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, psc,
mnips, mspsp, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally
and objectively to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the
circumstances surrounding her d3ath, locate the male guest and establish the
roles, if any, of persons connected to the incident.
“The Command
therefore appeals to members of the public for credible information that may
assist the investigation.
"Anyone
who recognises the deceased from the photograph or has information that may
assist in locating the male guest is urged to contact the Police Control Room
on 0706 797 7330 or 0905 827 3057, or visit the nearest Police Station.
"Further
updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.”
