Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has brushed aside criticism about his wife's lifestyle, saying he doesn't pay attention to what she wears or buys as long as public money isn't involved.
Some people have used his wife's clothing, bags and shoes as
evidence that he's being wasteful with funds, but Obi dismissed this,
explaining that his wife actually dresses less extravagantly now than she did
before he became governor.
Since his wife earns her own income, Obi said she's free to
spend it however she wants.
If she decides to purchase an expensive watch or other
items, that's entirely her choice and her business.
What matters to him is that their lifestyle isn't funded by
taxpayers' money.
As long as public funds aren't covering their bills and his
wife is satisfied with her choices, he has no problem with it.
On the question of celebrations, Obi revealed he doesn't
mark birthdays himself and has never been one for festivities.
However, he doesn't prevent others from celebrating theirs.
He's happy to attend someone's birthday party if it suits
them, doesn't create any conflict with his interests and he's not footing the
bill.
