Tuesday, September 15, 2026 - Hollywood filmmaker Tyler Perry has opened up about why he
has chosen to remain unmarried despite believing in love and companionship.
Hollywood filmmaker Tyler Perry has ruled out getting
married, citing what he calls the divorce epidemic as his reason for staying
single.
The 57-year-old, who has never been married, shared his
views while appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show this week to promote his new
Netflix film.
Perry said he has watched people he knows lose money and get
financially devastated through divorce, which is why he's decided marriage
isn't for him.
His decision isn't about lacking love, but about protecting
the wealth and assets he's built over his career.
Perry noted that getting older has made him want to slow
down and spend more time enjoying life with his 11-year-old son, Aman, whom he
shares with ex-partner Gelila Bekele.
The filmmaker plans to move to Puerto Rico at the start of
2027 with his son and step back from his intense Hollywood schedule.
Despite his stance against marriage, Perry said he still
believes in love and partnership, just not in a legal marriage contract at this
stage of his life.
His comments come as he promotes Why Did I Get Married
Again?, the third film in his franchise that has explored marriage, infidelity
and divorce themes since 2007.
