Police investigate mysterious death of 39-year-old man in vigilante’s office in Bauchi




Saturday, August 22, 2026 -The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the d3ath of a 39-year-old man, Abdulrazak Ibrahim at a vigilante office in Bakin Kura area of Bauchi Local Government Area.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, August 21, 2026 said three members of a vigilante group were arrested in connection with the incident. 

According to Habib, the incident was reported to the police on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at about 6:39 pm by the Chairman of the Vigilante Group in Bakin Kura.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased had been invited to the vigilante office following a theft complaint lodged by his mother, Hauwa Ibrahim.

"The Bauchi State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the d3ath of one Abdulrazak Ibrahim 'm', 39-years-old, at a Vigilante Office in Bakin Kura area, Bauchi LGA. 

"The incident was reported to the Police on 20th August, 2026 at about 1839hrs by  the Chairman of the Vigilante Group, Bakin Kura. Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased was invited to the Vigilante Office following a complaint of theft lodged by his mother, one Hauwa Ibrahim, for investigation, recovery of stolen properties, and to identify possible receivers.  

"It is unfortunate that during the process, Abdulrazak Ibrahim d!ed while in the custody of the vigilantes.  

"In response, the Command immediately deployed detectives attached to 'A' Division Township to the scene. Consequently, three members of the Vigilante Group on duty at the time. They are currently in detention to assist with the investigation.  

"The corpse of the deceased has been evacuated to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, and deposited in the mortuary for preservation. 

"Physical examination revealed that the body was intact with no visible sign of violence. However, an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the actual cause of d3ath.  

"The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc (+), has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice is served. 

"He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and warned against any act of jungle justice or extrajudicial action by individuals or groups.  

“Members of the public are urged to remain calm as the Command assures that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.”
