Friday, October 2, 2026 - The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects for the m3rder of a tea seller, Muhammad Auwal Idris.
Idris was fatally assaulted on 28th September, 2026 at
Banga, Nassarawo Borehole, Jimeta.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya
Nguroje, who disclosed this in a statement on 1st October, said the police
operatives arrested the suspects following sustained collaboration and
intelligence-led investigation.
He identified the suspects as Isah Yakubu aka Sangalo, 20
years, of Nassarawo, Jimeta, Japhet Hassan aka Slow, 24 years, of Banga,
Nassarawo, and Eric Alfred aka Mamaji, 19 years, of Nassarawo, Jimeta.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident stemmed
from an earlier altercation where the first suspect, Isah Yakubu, allegedly
took a cigarette from a shop without paying,” the statement read.
"The deceased, who was at the scene to buy seasoning,
got involved in the argument.
"Angered by the incident, Isah Yakubu on the following
day invited the other two suspects who trailed the victim to his workplace and
subjected him to severe beating, leaving him unconscious.
"The victim was rushed to the hospital where he was
later confirmed d3ad by a medical doctor.
"Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of
Police, Adamawa State Command, ordered an intensive manhunt for the
perpetrators. The suspects, who had fled to Taraba State, were tracked and
arrested.
"The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, fdc,
commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism and has
directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal
Investigation Department (SCID) to ensure a thorough investigation and diligent
prosecution.
"The CP reassures the family of the deceased and the
general public that justice will be served, and urges residents to remain calm
and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
"The Command also calls on eyewitnesses and members of
the public with useful information to come forward to assist the investigation.
