Tuesday, September 1, 2026 - Gunmen have killed the All Progressives Congress chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, in a fresh attack on the community.
The victims were killed on Sunday night when suspected
gunmen invaded Rantan community and opened fire on residents, forcing many to
flee their homes for safety.
A resident, Hamza Isah Rantan, who confirmed the attack in a
Facebook post, said the gunmen stormed the community at night and shot at
residents.
Hamza said Buba was shot inside his residence and later died
at a hospital, while Zunduma was killed instantly after being shot during the
attack.
He wrote, “On Sunday night, kidnappers attacked our town,
Rantan, where they shot Alhaji Garab Buha, the APC ward chairman in Rantan, who
later died in a hospital. They also killed another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma.
We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and
heals the injured.”
The development was also confirmed by the Kano State APC
spokesperson, Auwalu Soja, who said the ward chairman was killed on Sunday.
Soja, however, said the party would issue an official
statement on the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police
Command had yet to issue a statement on the attack or disclose whether any
suspects had been arrested.
The latest incident occurred less than 24 hours after
suspected bandits attacked Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government
Area of the state, abducting the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo
Chiromawa.
The traditional leader was later rescued unhurt after
security operatives, working with members of the community, pursued the
attackers and forced them to abandon their victim.
According to the police, three residents—Yusif Nasiru, 20;
Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, 20—sustained gunshot injuries during the
Garun Mallam attack and were taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for
treatment.
The command said tactical and patrol teams, reinforced by
personnel from neighbouring divisions, were mobilised after receiving a
distress call at about 11:30 pm on Saturday.
It subsequently deployed confidence-building patrols around
Garun Mallam and launched a manhunt for the fleeing attackers.
The successive attacks have heightened concerns over the
security situation in parts of Kano State, with residents urging security
agencies to intensify surveillance and prevent further attacks.
