Sunday, August 9, 2026 - Odigbo Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ondo State has sentenced a 31-year old man, Clement Odey, to four years’ imprisonment for abducting and r@ping a 15-year old girl.
The presiding Magistrate, Festus Akinlolu, handed down the
sentence after the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him
by the police.
In his judgement, Akinlolu sentenced Odey to two years’
imprisonment on the first count and another two years on the second count,
ordering that both sentences run concurrently.
According to the charge sheet, the offence occurred on June
22, 2026, at about 12:00 a.m. in Ayeleso Village, near Ore, within the Ore
Magisterial District.
The prosecution stated that Odey deceptively enticed the
minor by falsely promising to take her to Abuja, where her uncle resided.
Instead of fulfilling the promise, the defendant unlawfully
abducted the girl without the consent of her father, Edwin Onoh, and
transported her to Ibadan, Oyo State.
The court heard that Odey subsequently lured the teenager
into a bush in Ibadan, where he forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of
her.
The offences contravene Sections 360 and 361 of the Criminal
Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
Earlier in the proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector James
Usifo, informed the court that the defendant voluntarily pleaded guilty to all
counts.
Inspector Usifo noted that, in light of the guilty plea, the
prosecution was not required to call any witnesses or present additional
evidence to prove the case.
