Friday, February 16, 2024 – The Movement for Change (MfC) has denounced rumours of a collaboration between their presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and former president John Mahama, who is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 flagbearer.
In a statement released on Friday, February 16, the MfC's
spokesperson Duke Aaron Sasu dismissed claims that Mr. Kyerematen was working
with the opposition NDC candidate for the 2024 elections.
"The attention of the leadership of the Movement for
Change has been drawn to a propaganda piece that seeks to create a false
narrative of collaboration between Alan Kyerematen and one of the political
duopoly," said Mr. Sasu.
The rumours stemmed from concerns raised by a supposed
faction within the NDC known as the Social Democratic Forum.
In a letter dated February 13, the group had cautioned Mr.
Mahama against relying too heavily on Mr. Kyerematen's influence in the Ashanti
region.
However, Mr. Sasu stressed that the MfC's message remained
unchanged - that neither the NDC nor governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) truly
represented Ghana's interests.
"The NPP and NDC in their current forms continue to
undermine the progress of this country and are no longer representative of the
ideals of progress and prosperity that define the Ghanaian people," he
stated.
The spokesperson reiterated their goal of forming a
government of national unity that moved beyond the NDC-NPP duopoly.
“Through the collective will of the Ghanaian people we shall
move beyond the NPP = NDC duopoly and create an opportunity for Ghana to rise
again," Mr. Sasu added.
