Wednesday, January 17, 2024 – Nigeria’s apex court has reserved judgement in an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Saidu Umar, against the election of the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu.
Umar and the PDP had alleged that Aliyu and his deputy,
Idris Gobir, were not eligible to contest the governorship election. They also
claimed that the election was not only marred by irregularities but was also
not conducted in substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act
2022.
A five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Kudirat
Kekere-Ekun which presided over the appeal on Wednesday, January 7, adjourned
its judgment after listening to the argument from the parties involved in the
appeal.
